Halifax MZ645 damaged in the air, landed at Tholthorpe airfield.

During the evening of 24th June 1944 this 420 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight that included a practice bombing exercise. On the approach to land at Tholthorpe airfield the port engine caught fire which caused minor damage to the engine and the wing but a normal landing was made at 21.00hrs and the fire was extinguished. Faulty maintenance on a fuel pressure warning switch connector had resulted in a fuel spray over the hot engine.

Pilot - P/O Allan Manchee Caine RCAF (J/86111).
