Halifax MZ621 damaged in the air, returned to Tholthorpe airfield.
On the night of 7th / 8th July 1944 the crew of this 425 Squadron aircraft flew an operational flight to bomb a target at Caen and took off from Tholthorpe at 19.50hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto target markers from 7,400 feet at 22.24hrs and while over the target a flak burst damaged the Halifax. The pilot's escape hatch, flight engineer's window were both damaged. Despite the damage the crew returned to Tholthorpe and landed safely at 00.25hrs.
