Halifax MZ587 damaged in the air, returned to Tholthorpe airfield.
On the evening of 21st June 1944 the crew of this 420 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at St. Martin L'Hortier and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 17.26hrs. They released their bomb load onto the target from 16,000 feet at 19.46hrs but the aeroplane was hit by flak causing damage across the wings, fuselage and nose. Despite the damage the crew returned to Tholthorpe and landed at 22.01hrs.
