Halifax MZ540 damaged in the air, returned to Tholthorpe airfield.
During the morning of 15th August 1944 the crew of this 420 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Brussels / Melsbroek and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 09.42hrs. They released their bomb load onto target markers from 16,500 feet at 12.02hrs. While approaching the target area the aeroplane was slightly damaged by a flak but despite the damage the crew returned to Tholthorpe and landed at 13.54hrs.
