Halifax MZ535 at Carnaby airfield.

On 17th August 1944 this 51 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown on an evening cross country training flight but on take off from Snaith the port main tyre burst. The pilot managed to remain in control and took off normally. The crew probably flew part of the training exercise but owing to the problem that landing with a known flat tyre could present the crew with they were diverted to land on the emergency landing strip at Carnaby. On landing there at 22.20hrs the port undercarriage collapsed.
