Halifax MZ528 mid-air collision, returned to Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
During the day of 29th October 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Walcheren and took off from Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 10.27hrs. The crew released their bomb load from 7,500 feet at 12.27hrs on red target markers and during their bombing run the rear fuselage of the Halifax was struck by the starboard wing tip of 156 Squadron Lancaster NE132 and created a six foot wide hole in the fuselage between the mid upper turret and the tailplane. Despite the damage the crew were able to fly back to base and landed at Holme on Spalding Moor at 13.39hrs. The Lancaster lost six feet of it's wing but returned to it's base and made a safe landing.
