Halifax MZ393 at Carnaby airfield.
On the evening of 21st December 1944 this 77 Squadron aircraft was flown on a mine laying operational flight and the aircraft took off from Full Sutton at 15.45hrs. The crew released their load from 15,000 feet at 18.28hrs. On their return to Yorkshire this and all the other 77 Squadron aircraft landed at Carnaby; MZ393 at 21.15hrs. The crew of the aircraft then shut down the engines and left the aircraft. At 22.30hrs the aircraft was parked and empty when it was struck by 77 Squadron Halifax MZ396 that was being towed to a dispersal point by a tractor along the runway.
