Halifax MZ371 at Pocklington airfield.

During the afternoon of 11th August 1944 this 102 Squadron aircraft was to have been used to fly an operational flight to bomb a railway target at Somain, France. On take off from Pocklington airfield at 13.40hrs the aircraft lost power in the port inner engine and did not have enough power to get airborne. The pilot attempted to slow the aircraft but with the boundary fast approaching he raised the undercarriage to stop the aircraft and prevent it overshooting. The aircraft was badly damaged and was not repaired. One member of the crew sustained injuries.
