Halifax MZ359 damaged in the air, landed at Carnaby airfield.
During the evening of 4th November 1944 the crew of this 77 Squadron aircraft were detailed to fly an operational flight to bomb Bochum and they took off from Full Sutton airfield at 17.35hrs. On the approach to
the target area the aircraft was coned by searchlights and then damaged by heavy flak at 19.37hrs. The port flap was partly shot away and the aircraft received holes in the windscren and also the rear gunner's panels.
The crew released their bomb load onto the target at 19.42hrs from around 16,500 feet but the pilot was making a corkscrew manouvre at the time to attempt to shake off the searchlights. As they neared Yorkshire the aircraft
began vibrating violently and it had a problem with the undercarriage so the crew landed at Carnaby airfield at 23.00hrs.
