Halifax MZ356 damaged in the air, returned to Skipton on Swale airfield.
During the evening of 18th August 1944 the crew of this 424 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a V.1 weapon site at Anderbelck took off from Skipton on Swale airfield at 19.13hrs. At around 21.00hrs the crew were forced to orbit the target area twice, during this the aircraft was struck and damaged by flak that then prevented them from being able to release the bomb load. Despite the damage the crew returned to Skipton on Swale and landed at 23.00hrs with the bomb load on board.
