Halifax MZ342 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.
On 12th September 1944 the crew of this 466 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb Gelsenkirchen-Buer and took off from Driffield airfield at 10.42hrs. Before reaching the target the
aircraft was struck by flak and damaged, the flak also wounded the mid upper gunner. After they were hit the crew opted to bomb the Bottrop area from 17,000 feet at 13.34hrs. Two of the bombs would not
release and later had to be jettisoned. Despite the damage the aircraft returned to Driffield and landed at 15.45hrs. The injured airman was taken to the airfield hospital.
