Halifax MZ307 at Driffield airfield.
During the morning of 17th September 1944 this 466 Squadron aircraft was to have been used to fly an operational flight to bomb at target at Boulogne. On take off from Driffield at 07.27hrs the aircraft began to swing off the runway, the pilot lost control and ordered the flight engineer to reduce the power on the engines to abandon the take off but the flight engineer pushed the throttle levers the wrong way. As a result the aircraft was not able to be stopped in the available space available and the aircraft passed through the boundary and over a ditch resulting in the undercarriage collapsing. The aircraft was badly damaged and was not repaired.
