Halifax MZ304 at Leeming airfield.

On the night of 19th / 20th October 1944 this 427 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight that involved the crew practicing using the H2S equipment within the aircraft. On landing at Leeming airfield at 00.42hrs the aircraft was not properly lined up with the runway, on landing it drifted off the concrete and across the grass. The aircraft then headed towards the airfield firing butt. The pilot then swung the aircraft to avoid a collision but only succeeded in striking the tail against a blast wall embankment causing damage to the tail wheel, fin and rudder. The pilot was held responsible and was sent to undertake further training.
