Halifax MZ299 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.

On the night of 24th / 25th July 1944 this 466 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Stuttgart and took off from Driffield airfield at 21.35hrs. The crew released their bomb load at 01.52hrs from 19,800 feet. On the return trip the mid upper gunner was attempting to clear a blockage in the guns but had left the guns with the "Fire" button switched to on, one of the guns fired and as it was pointing toward the aircraft minor damage resulted. The aircraft landed normally at Driffield at 05.55hrs. Cat.Ac damage was the damage assessment which suggests the bullet hit something more that than just penetrating the fuselage skinning as this would have probably only been the lesser Cat.A damage.
