Martinet MS549 at Dalton airfield.
At 15.30hrs on 18th March 1944 this Martinet about to take off from Dalton airfield to undertake a local flying exercise, as he taxied around the perimeter track a crew bus was being driven on the perimeter track in front of the aircraft. Without warning the driver of the coach stopped suddenly and before the brakes of the Martinet could take effect the aircraft ran into the coach. The driver of the coach was found to blame as he should not have been driving where he was when flying was in progress on the airfield. The aircraft and crew were on the books of No.1695 (Bomber) Defence Training Flight who undertook the role of drogue towing and also fighter attacking aircraft for fighter affiliation exercises.
