Spitfire Mk.VII MD141 at Sherburn in Elmet airfield.

At 16.15hrs on 4th November 1944 this aircraft was being landed at Sherburn in Elmet airfield by a No.7 Ferry Pilot Pool pilot of the ATA in a strong gusty crosswind and during his first appempt to land the port wing dropped and struck the ground. The pitot head was damaged but the pilot was able to apply power and become airborne again. After making a circuit of the airfield he landed without the airspeed indicator working.
