Halifax LW695 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
During the early hours of 6th June 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown on an operational flight to bomb enemy positions at Montfluery ahead of the D-Day landing forces. At 02.18hrs when the engines were being run up on the ground at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield prior to taking off the mid upper gunner accidentally fired a burst of machine gunfire toward the fuselage resulting in minor damage.
