Halifax LW683 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
During the evening of 22nd December 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operational flight to bomb Bingen and took off from Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 15.10hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area from 18,000 feet at 18.38hrs. The 76 Squadron orb gives the landing time as being 20.55hrs while the AM Form 1180 for the subsequent accident stated that the time was 21.10hrs following 5.55 hours in the air. Neither fit with the take off time being correct of 15.10hrs. I suspect 5.55 hours in the air was correct and this would make the landing time being 21.05hrs. While landing at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield poor visbility was effecting flying condictions. The aircraft landed heavy, and with slight drift which saw the undercarriage collapse.
