Halifax LW645 damaged in the air, returned to Tholthorpe airfield.

During the morning of 15th August 1944 the crew of this 420 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Brussels / Melsbroek and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 09.47hrs. They released their bomb load onto target markers from 17,500 feet at 12.04hrs. In the course of the flight the aeroplane was slightly damaged by a flak burst that caused a hole in the perspex of the mid upper turret. Despite the damage the crew returned to Tholthorpe and landed at 13.59hrs.
