Halifax LW635 damaged in the air, landed at Lissett airfield.

On the night of 22nd / 23rd April 1944 this 158 Squadron aircraft was used to flying an operational flight to bomb Dusseldorf and took off from Lissett airfield at 22.28hrs. On the approach to the target area the aircraft was struck by falling incendiary bombs dropped from a higher flying aircraft at 01.20hrs. The aircraft received damage to the port wing spar, starboard outer wing and also the tail plane. The pilot remained in control and the crew released their bomb load on to the target area at 01.23hrs from 19,000 feet. Despite the damage the crew flew back to Lissett and landed at 03.45hrs.
