Halifax LW596 (possibly) damaged in the air, returned to East Moor airfield.
During the early hours of 18th June 1944 the crew of this 432 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Oisemont and took off from East Moor at 01.02hrs. They released their bomb load onto target markers from 12,400 feet at 03.13hrs. During the flight this Halifax was fired upon by the crew of another Halifax that was flying around fifty yards ahead. LW596 appears to have been slightly damaged as it is logged in a damage log submitted to 6 Group HQ (now held at National Archives file AIR14-3310). The crew returned to East Moor and landed at 05.16hrs.
