At 03.07hrs on 28th June 1944 425 Squadron Halifax MZ683 missed the runway on landing at Tholthorpe and smashed into Halifax LW680 that was un-crewed at the time but was loaded with bombs. The collision resulted in a huge fire that destroyed both aircraft and badly damaged Halifax MZ618. It also slightly damaged Halifax LW467 and Halifax LW590.
