Halifax LW474 damaged in the air, landed at Catfoss airfield.
On the night of 27th / 28th May 1944 the crew of this 578 Squadron undertook an operational flight to bomb Bourg Leopold and took off from Burn airfield at 23.56hrs.
Before reaching the target this aircraft was attacked and damaged by an enemy fighter that saw the port inner engine catch fire. The fire was put out but the crew turned
for home, jettisoning most of the bomb load. They landed at Catfoss on their return at 03.44hrs.
