Halifax LW442 at Snaith airfield.

During the evening of 6th January 1944 this 51 Squadron aircraft was flown on a cross country training exercise. With the aircraft landing at Snaith without incident the crew taxied around the perimeter track back to a dispersal point at 21.54hrs but the crew mistook the meaning of lighting on the perimeter track, the pilot turned the aircraft into a dispersal but struck Halifax LW470 that was stationary and empty. The AM Form 1180 appears to suggest that there was a shortage of amber coloured filters for perimeter track lighting that should have been used and without these filters the colours of the lights that were showing was confusing.

Pilot - Sgt Reginald James Feaver RAFVR (1389645).
