Halifax LW424 at Tholthorpe airfield.
During the evening of 8th February 1944 this 425 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 16.00hrs. The flight would be the pilot's first solo flight in a Halifax MkIII. Just prior to landing at Tholthorpe at dusk at 17.10hrs the aircraft suffered an engine failure. The pilot attempted a three engined landing in a slight cross wind but unfortunately swung off the runway and collided with an obstruction causing minor damage. Both outer engines were torn off their mountings.
Pilot - Sgt Joseph Gerard Maurice Landry RCAF (R/159953).
