Halifax LW391 at Tholthorpe airfield.

During the early hours of 6th July 1944 this 425 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Biennais and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 01.40hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area from 10,500 feet at 03.36hrs. The aircraft landed at 05.16hrs but as it was being taxied around the airfield the pilot retracted the starboard undercarriage in error, instead of operating the flap lever he pushed the undercarriage lever. The starboard undercarriage leg collapsed damaging the aircraft.
