Halifax LW389 at Tholthorpe airfield.

At 09.55hrs on 27th February 1944 420 Squadron Halifax LW389 was sat parked and empty on a dispersal point at Tholthorpe airfield when the parking brakes failed. The aircraft was parked on a slightly sloping dispersal point and it rolled backwards into 420 Squadron Halifax LW386 and 425 Squadron Halifax LW381. All aircraft received minor damage. LW389 damaged the starboard wing tip, LW386 sustained a damaged starboard inner propeller and LW381 sustained a damaged port elevator and outer wing. Damage assessments on all three Halifaxes must have been minor Cat.A and none of their AM Form 78's list the damage sustained on this date.
