Halifax LW204 at Linton on Ouse airfield.
During the afternoon of 1st July 1944 this 426 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Biennais construction works and took off from Linton on Ouse at 14.57hrs. The crew released their bomb load from 12,800 feet at 16.59hrs. On the return flight engines began to fail and by the time a landing was made at Linton on Ouse at 18.49hrs two had failed. Exactly what happened is unclear. An entry in a Flying Control log stated that it "crash landed" and came to rest just off Runway 22 but enough clear of it to not present as a hazard to other landing aircraft. Minor Cat.A damage must have been as bad as the damage got.
