Halifax LW176 at Croft airfield.
On the night of 7th / 8th August 1944 this 434 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown an operational flight to bomb a target at La Hogue in co-operation with the army in the Caen area. At 20.38hrs the crew inside Halifax LW176 were awaiting their turn to take off from Croft airfield when an out of control Halifax LK799 swung off the runway and eventually collided LW176 before then running into a brick wall. LW176 sustained damaged bomb doors or the mechanism that opened them but only relatively minor damage while LK799 was eventually written off with the damage sustained.
