Halifax LW134 at Pocklington airfield.
During the evening of 3rd August 1944 this 102 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Foret de Nieppe and took off from Pocklington airfield at 18.28hrs. The crew released most of their bombload onto the target area at 20.08hrs from 15,300ft but two 500lb bombs hung-up, though these were later jettisoned. At 21.55hrs the aircraft landed too far down the runway and was travelling too fast on approach. The aircraft ran off end of runway through the overshoot area and into a field, starboard undercarriage leg then collapsed causing the aircraft to swing around.
