Halifax LW115 damaged in the air, landed at Skipton on Swale airfield.

During the early hours of 23rd May 1944 this 433 Squadron aircraft was used to flying an operational flight to bomb Le Mans and took off from airfield at Skipton on Swale airfield at 00.02hrs. The crew released their bomb load from 8,600 feet at 02.30hrs. While over the target area the aircraft was struck on the port wing by a falling bomb from a higher flying aircraft and the trailing edge and the flap on the port wing receieved damage. This damage did not prevent the crew from flying back to Skipton on Swale where they landed at 05.03hrs.
