Halifax LV992 at Skipton on Swale airfield.
On the night of 28th / 29th July 1944 this 433 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Hamburg and took off from Skipton on Swale airfield at 22.30hrs. The crew released their bomb load at 01.14hrs from 20,000 feet and landed without incident at Skipton on Swale at 03.41hrs, after which it's crew taxied to a dispersal, shut down the engines and left the aircraft. At 04.00hrs 433 Squadron Halifax MZ284 was landing following the same operational order but swung off the runway, ran across the grass and collided with Halifax LV992. Minor damage resulted to both aircraft, LV992 had a damaged fuselage and tail.
