Halifax LV985 damaged in the air, landed at Leeming airfield.
On the night of 18th / 19th April 1944 this 427 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operational flight to bomb a target at Le Bourget, France and took off from Leeming airfield at 20.50hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target at 23.58hrs from 15,900 feet but while over the congested target a collision occurred between LV985 and 427 Squadron Halifax LV987 that saw six feet of the starboard wing being cut off LV985. Halifax LW987 was also damaged with the port outer engine and propeller being damaged. The crew of Halifax LV985 landed at Leeming without further incident at 02.45hrs.
