Halifax LV917 at Carnaby airfield.

During the morning of 14th October 1944 this 158 Squadron aircraft was flown on an operational flight to bomb Duisburg and took off from Lissett airfield at 06.29hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target from 17,000 feet at 09.09hrs. On their return to Yorkshire the aircraft was diverted to land at Carnaby and landed at 11.46hrs where upon it taxied around to a dispersal point. 158 Squadron Halifax LW617 also landed at Carnaby and at 12.02hrs it was also taxied into the same dispersal point but the breaks failed. A collision occurred and minor damage to the aircraft resulted.
