Halifax LV902 damaged in the air, returned to Leeming airfield.
During the morning of 15th August 1944 the crew of this 427 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb the airfield at Soesterberg and they took off from Leeming airfield at 09.55hrs. They released their bomb load onto the target from 16,000 feet at 12.02hrs and while over the target the aircraft was struck by flak, it sustained damage widely across it with port fuel tanks, tail oleo, starboard inner engine damaged and other holes made. Despite the damage the crew returned to Leeming and landed at 13.40hrs.
