Halifax LV902 at Leeming airfield.
At 12.15hrs on 12th September 1944 this 427 Squadron aircraft was in the process of taking off from Leeming airfield so the crew could airtest the pilot opened the throttles a swing developed. The pilot then over-corrected the swing and cut the power to the engines but could not stop the aircraft before it ran off the airfield and into a wood. A fire broke out in the starboard inner engine but was put out by hand extinguishers. Minor damage to the aircraft resulted. The pilot was posted to 82 O.T.U. the following day.
