Halifax LV874 at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
During the morning on 18th February 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft was flown to give the crew familiarisation with the new Halifax MkIII aircraft that the squadron had received, on board this aircraft there was a crew of eight. At 10.10hrs the aircraft took off from Holme on Spalding Moor airfield but appeared nose heavy as it picked up speed. As it left the ground the aircraft's starboard wheel dropped slighty and touched the ground causing damage to the undercarriage mechanism. Once properly airborne the undercarriage would only retract half way. The aircraft landed an hour later at Holme on Spalding Moor and all was normal until the starboard undercarriage leg collapsed before the aircraft was brought to a halt.
