Halifax LV866 at Leeming airfield.
During the evening of 21st June 1944 this 429 Squadron aircraft was to have been flown on an operational flight to bomb a target at Oisemont / Neuville-au-Bois. At 17.50hrs on the take off run at Leeming airfield the port outer engine spluttered and backfired as it picked up speed. At the time the pilot had the tail up and he then attempted to abandon the take off run. He cut the power to the engines and attempted to brake on the available runway but could not stop. The aircraft overshot Runway 04 and came to rest with the starboard undercarriage collapsed, and the starboard propellers and rudder damaged.
