Swordfish LS272 near Burneston.
On 2nd June 1944 this aircraft was being flown by a member of No.7 Ferry Pilot Pool, of the A.T.A. and was being ferried between Sherburn in Elmet airfield and an airfield north of Sherburn when the engine began to misfire while in the air and at around 2,000 feet. The pilot turned the aircraft around but before he could make a landing the engine then failed. He made a forced landing in a field sustaining minor damage. The location is believed to have been around two miles south of Leeming airfield which would put it near the village of Burneston.
Pilot - 2nd Officer Edward Dwyer ATA.
