Wellington LP342 at Branton, Doncaster.

On 28th September 1944 the crew of this 29 O.T.U. aircraft took off from Bruntingthorpe airfield at 19.25hrs to undertake a cross country training flight. During the course of the flight the aircraft entered a dive for reasons not known and the forces exerted on the aircraft caused it to break up in the air. In the resulting crash near Branton all six airmen were killed.

Navigator - Sgt Cecil Ralph Gollop RAFVR (1566258), aged 24, of Sunderland, Co.Durham. Buried Harrogate Stonefall Cemetery, Yorkshire (E/F/17).

Bomb Aimer - Sgt Maxwell Woodhead RAFVR (1580619), aged 21, of Birmingham. Cremated Birmingham Crematorium.

? - F/Sgt Jeffrey Noel Smith RAAF (432577), aged 20, of Parkes, New South Wales, Australia. Buried Harrogate Stonefall Cemetery, Yorkshire (E/F/18).

? - Sgt Neil Graham RAFVR (1868113), aged 21, of Stornaway. Buried Griais Old Churchyard, Stornaway, Isle of Lewis.
