Wellington LN953 at Doncaster airfield.
On 7th November 1944 the crew of this 27 Operational Training Unit aircraft were undertaking an air gunnery training flight, probably off the Yorkshire coast. Landing at Doncaster at 11.35hrs on wet grass, the brakes failed to slow the aircraft and in trying to deliberately swing the aircraft to avaoid an obstruction the undercarriage collapsed. Why a landing was having to be made at Doncaster is not yet known. The aircraft was based at Lichfield.
