Wellington LN401 at Hutton Cranswick airfield.
At 11.10hrs on 13th November 1944 the crew of this 84 Operational Training Unit aircraft took off from Desborough to undertake a cross country training exercise. By 14.05hrs the aircraft was flying at 14,000 feet when both engines began to misfire. The pilot began to descend through cloud and in doing so ice formed on the pitot head tube which effected the air speed indicator. Emerging from cloud and with the engines failing the crew located Hutton Cranswick airfield and made an approach to land there but in doing so over-ran the runway and hit a pole, coming to rest badly damaged.
