Lancaster LL700 damaged in the air, returned to Linton on Ouse airfield.

On the night of 16th / 17th June 1944 the crew of this 408 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Sterkrade and took off from Linton on Ouse airfield at 23.07hrs. The aircraft was hit by flak on the run into the target but this did not prevent the crew from releasing their bomb load onto target marker glow from 18,800 feet at 01.20hrs. Later, the Lancaster was attacked by an enemy aircraft but was not damaged. The Lancaster returned to Linton on Ouse and landed at 03.28hrs. This crew were later posted to 434 Squadron.
