Halifax LL609 damaged in the air, landed at Driffield airfield.
During the evening of 12th September 1944 this 462 Squadron aircraft was used to fly an operational flight to bomb a target at Munster and took off from Driffield airfield at 16.21hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area from 19,000 feet at 18.41hrs. While over the target this aircraft was damaged by incendiaries released from a higher flying aircraft. Despite the damage the crew flew it back to Driffield and landed safely at 20.56hrs. Minor Cat.Ac damage was the initial damage assessment but this may have been upgraded to Re-Cat.B because the aircraft was sent for repair in the Handley Page works factory.
