Halifax LL608 damaged in the air, landed at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
On 28th October 1944 this 76 Squadron aircraft took off from Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 13.27hrs with the crew tasked with flying an operational flight to bomb Cologne. The crew released their bomb load onto the target area from 19,000 feet at 15.48hrs and while over the target the aircraft was struck from above by falling incendiary bombs released by a higher flying aircraft. Despite the damage the aircraft landed normally at Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 18.10hrs. Cat.Ac/FB damage was the damage assessment. The squadron orb lists the aircraft being flown by this pilot as LW637 but the AM Form 1180 give it as LL608. The AM Form 78 for LL608 agrees that it sustained Cat.Ac damage on this date.
