Halifax LL596 damaged in the air, returned to Tholthorpe airfield.
During the afternoon of 14th August 1944 the crew of this 425 Squadron aircraft undertook an operational flight to bomb a target at Tassilly, France and took off from Tholthorpe airfield at 12.19hrs. They released their bomb load onto the target on direction from the master bomber from 9,000 feet at 14.59hrs but while over the target a flak burst damaged the starboard stabiliser. Despite the damage the crew returned to Tholthorpe and landed at 16.39hrs.
