Halifax LL581 at Pocklington airfield.
On 26th September 1944 this 102 Squadron aircraft was flown on a flight that involved ferrying petrol from Pocklington airfield to Melsbroek, Belgium in support of advancing ground forces and where an airfield had been created. The aircraft took off from Pocklington at 09.00hrs, delivered 163 cans of fuel containing 750 gallons and returned to base. On landing at Pocklington at 14.42hrs in a gusty wind a wing dropped and the wing tip hit the runway. The pilot remained in control and stopped the aircraft safely but minor damage had already resulted.
