Halifax LL577 damaged by flak, returned to Holme on Spalding Moor airfield.
On 12th September 1944 76 Squadron supplied 26 Halifaxes for a daylight raid on Gelsenkirchen. Halifax LL577 was one of the number and took off from Holme on Spalding Moor airfield at 10.56hrs. The crew released their bomb load from 19,000 feet at 13.32hrs. The aircraft was damaged by flak and the wireless operator was injured in the leg. Despite the damage the crew made a safe return to base, landing at Holme on Spalding Moor at 15.14hrs.
