Halifax LL551 at Elvington airfield.
On 28th June 1944 this 346 Squadron aircraft was flown on a training flight that lasted 2.20hrs. After landing at Elvington following the exercise the crew waited for ground crew to guide them and the aircraft back to a dispersal. They taxied back to the dispersal area at "12.57" without incident but when the ground crew directed the pilot to avoid a ladder on the dispersal no one realised that the starboard wing would not clear a tree and a minor collision occurred. This incident appears to have occurred in the day, not at night. The trees were later cut down and the French ground crew were gven more training on marshalling aircraft.
Pilot - S/C A Billaut FFAF (C.3891).
