Halifax LL544 damaged in the air, landed at Full Sutton airfield.

The Full Sutton station orb states that on 8th August 1944 Halifax LL504 returned from operations with Cat.Ac damage. Due to enemy action the aircraft received damage to both port and starboard oiter and intermediate mainplanes, two port fuel tanks, the starboard undercarriage arch, the tailplane and the fuselage skinning. It was on charge with 77 Squadron at the time. It's AM Form 78 agrees because a Cat.Ac/FB damage assessment was made against it on 9th August 1944.

Halifax LL544 was flown operationally twice on 8th August 1944; it was used over the night of 7th / 8th and then on a daylight flight later that evening. Given the extensive damage this must have occurred on the second flight and while the 77 Squadron records do not mention any damage it was then not flown operationally. On 8th August 1944 the crew of this 77 Squadron aircraft were detailed to fly an operational flight to bomb Chappelle Notre Dame and they took off from Full Sutton airfield at 19.20hrs. The crew released their bomb load onto the target at 11,500 feet at 20.51hrs, they then landed at Full Sutton at 22.40hrs.
